Throughout my life, I have had the same three goals: to gain control over my finances and achieve financial stability and responsibility, to harness my creativity and bring my ideas to fruition, and to attain physical and spiritual well-being. I’ve tirelessly pursued balance and order, in my life, striving to accomplish what my father yearned for but was unable to achieve. In essence, my goals are not only for myself, but also to break the generational chains that have bound my lineage.
Today, I want to share with you an approach to goal-setting that has transformed my life: the 12-Week Year by Brian P. Moran and Michael Lennington. You can listen to it here.
So, what exactly IS the 12 Week Year?

The 12-Week Year is a program that redefines traditional goal-setting by condensing yearly objectives into quarterly targets. This approach resonated with me because, like many, I found myself stuck in a cycle of unmet goals and unfulfilled aspirations using the conventional annual method. The idea of breaking down my goals into more manageable, bite-sized pieces over a shorter time-frame appealed to me.
In implementing the 12-Week Year, I’ve learned valuable lessons and experienced significant growth in reaching my goals. Let’s delve deeper into how I’ve applied this framework to my life and how you can do the same.
Steps to Complete a 12-Week Year:
1. Set Clear Objectives: Start by defining specific, measurable goals for each 12-week period. Break down your long-term aspirations into actionable steps that can be achieved within the timeframe. Make sure your objectives are challenging yet achievable.
2. Prioritize and Focus: Identify the most critical areas of improvement or development in your life. Focus your energy and resources on those priorities to maximize your effectiveness. Avoid spreading yourself too thin by prioritizing a few key goals.
3. Create a Plan: Develop a strategic plan outlining the actions you need to take to achieve your goals. Break down each goal into smaller tasks and set milestones to track your progress. Establish deadlines to create a sense of urgency and accountability.
4. Stay Flexible: Be prepared to adjust your approach as needed based on changing circumstances or unforeseen challenges. Flexibility is key to overcoming obstacles and staying on course. Stay open to feedback and be willing to pivot if necessary.
5. Execute with Discipline: Consistent action is essential for success in the 12-Week Year framework. Stay disciplined and committed to following through with your action plan, even when faced with distractions or setbacks. Hold yourself accountable for making progress towards your goals.
My 12 Week Year:

Quarter 1 Progress: In the first quarter of my 12-Week Year journey, my focus was on foundational aspects of personal growth: deepening my relationship with God, strengthening my faith, cultivating healthy habits, and building up passive income through my business. While I made strides in some areas, such as committing to daily Bible study and engaging with a church community, I encountered challenges with other goals, such as regular attendance at Alanon meetings and registering for a Financial Training course. Although I didn’t meet my goal of writing one blog post a week and posting 2 products in my shop, I was able to write 4 blog posts and posted 12 products out of the 24 that I created. These setbacks highlighted my need to set reasonable and attainable goals for myself and made me realize how easily attainable my goals could be, without much effort on my part.
Quarter 2 Goals: Looking ahead to the second quarter of my 12-Week Year journey, my objectives shift towards enhancing my financial stewardship, nurturing my creative business, and prioritizing my health. To achieve these goals, I’ve outlined specific action steps:
- Financial Peace: Enroll in Financial Peace University, at my church, to gain practical tools and strategies for managing finances effectively.
- Build my Passive Income through my creative business: Evaluate where I want to focus my energy and committ to creating 6 YouTube videos, 12 blog posts, finish posting the remaining 12 products, and create 1 new product a week.
- Health and Wellness: Address any health concerns or challenges that may hinder my overall well-being, by scheduling a dermatologist and gastro appointment to determine why I have a chronic cough and a rash on the right side of my face.
- Commit to the Candida Cleanse protocol in April and then add in water intake and daily workouts. . Prioritize self-care practices and establish healthy routines.
By focusing on these key areas and implementing targeted action plans, I aim to continue my journey towards holistic wellness.
What are the next steps?
Progress and Reflection: As I reflect on my journey thus far, I recognize the progress I’ve made and the lessons I’ve learned along the way. While not all goals were achieved within the specified time frames, the 12-Week Year framework has propelled me forward in ways I hadn’t experienced in years. The flexibility and focus inherent in this approach have enabled me to adapt and persist in the pursuit of my goals, leading to growth and transformation.
In conclusion, embracing the 12-Week Year has been a game-changer in my quest for personal, financial, and creative freedom. By setting clear objectives, staying focused, and remaining adaptable, I’ve been able to make progress towards my full potential and living a purposeful, intentional life.
