A Creative Way to Build Consistent Habits
Creating New Habits with the 5 Habits in 5 Routine

Make time for yourself, with small daily habits that bring you closer to your goals.
I can’t begin to describe the shame that comes with decades of having the same goals and not achieving them. Since my 20s, I have wanted to break free of the chains that I have put on myself.
It would be like I was looking into a mirror and seeing myself self-sabotage my goals, but I was unable to get out from under myself. That is until I started consistently doing The 5 Habits in 5 routine.
I needed to find a way to create consistency and establish habits, in a simple way. The 5 Habits in 5 Minutes is where I pick 5 habits that I complete every day…for 5 minutes each.
This article will not only help you undo the habit of being yourself, but also pave the way for you to implement future habits and reach your goals. By dedicating just 5 minutes a day to each essential habit, you can create a routine that nurtures your present self and lays the foundation for the life you’ve always wanted. You get to become the person you know that you are.
The Routine
Decide on 1 to 5 habits that you crave in your life. Don’t have any habits or hobbies? Think back to who you were, before life happened. Who was the ten year old version of YOU? What did you enjoy? What activities could you get lost in? What were some goals that you had for yourself?
The Process
Decide on your 1-5 goals and execute each. Every. Single. Day.
You can do anything for 5 minutes and by the time you get started, it’s easy to keep going. Most days, I complete all 5 habits in 25 minutes, during my morning routine.
The premise behind this routine, is to intentionally create small pockets of space to do the activities that bring you joy and that will give you a better life.
The following habits are what I currently do every day:
Habit 1: Read

I can’t count how many times I have heard someone say “I love reading, but I never have time for it anymore”. Embrace simplicity by dedicating 5 minutes to reading each day. As you enjoy the tranquility of a good book, envision a future where your reading habits expand to include larger goals like one book a month or even one book A WEEK!
Habit 2: Read My Bible
Connect with your spiritual side for 5 minutes daily by reading your Bible. This habit not only sets the stage for a deeper understanding of my faith, but it also gives me peace and tools to manage my life better, when I start my morning in The Word.
Habit 3: Drawing

I can’t go back to a life where I don’t create art. I take 5 minutes a day to focus on drawing. It’s such a simple habit, but it allows me to finish one page of clipart a week, that I can sell in my store or use on the digital products that I create. I envision a future where my artistic skills expand, from this daily habit.
Habit 4: Working Out
I want to be athletic, but the thought of doing a 1 hour…heck, even doing a 30 minute workout, is too much for me! I would rather be doing just about anything else! But I want to be a healthy person, so I prioritize my physical well-being with a 5-minute workout routine each day. 5 minutes gradually increases to 15 minutes, then 30, as I get used to the habit of working out and start seeing myself as a healthy, athletic person.
Habit 5: Writing
I crave the act of writing. I have so many stories and lessons to share, that it saddens me when I am unable to get around to writing. For me, writing is an act of decluttering my mind and it’s therapy for me. Can you imagine how much your writing would improve if you dedicated a daily habit for it?
What habits do you want to add when you master the first 5? I want to master tracking my spending, running, learning Spanish, singing, and acting again. At that point, maybe I would alternate days for different habits that I want to implement in my routine. The most important part is to imagine the person that you want to become and then become her, every day, for 5 minutes at a time.
Overcoming the Hard Part: Starting
The hardest part is taking the first step. Start small, dedicating 5 minutes to each habit. As you build consistency, visualize these routines evolving to accommodate longer sessions or future goals. Set yourself up for success, by setting your environment up to help you succeed. If you want to create art, then have a space setup for you to create something. It’s easier to create art when all of your supplies are available. If reading is one of your goals, leave your book out by your bed or carry one in your car, so you can read whenever you get a chance.
